Gökçelik, the brand with roots the shelving industry, has made a name for itself with recent breakthroughs, plus good showings in its export volumes. Starting with Industry 4.0 investments, the company continues to lead the field through its expenditure on R&D and Design.
Gökçelik has set to work, encompassing a vision of sustainability within the EU’s Green Reconciliation Action Plan, beginning with a Solar Power Plant (SPP) of approximately 3,500 square meters on the roof of its 4th factory, the Depot Systems (GDS), which operates in the Nilüfer Organized Industrial Zone (NOSAB). The company is investing to reap the benefits of solar energy, which is known as a clean and renewable resource that meets the requirements of the Green Agreement, by minimizing the use of fossil fuels in production, and thereby building on its efforts to fulfil the responsibilities of a sustainable economy.
Gokcelik’s investment in renewable energy resources combats global warming and prevents climate change by promoting energy efficiency, and a carbon-free and durable economy. The company plans to produce an annual 630,000 kW/h of electricity with the SPP, thereby providing 36% of its consumption. Furthermore, during its operational life the establishment of the SPP will prevent carbon emissions of 278 tons/year, save 54 Tons of Oil Equivalent (TOE) per year, and prevent emissions equal to the carbon absorption of 25,000 trees.
Addressing guests at the opening of the Solar Power Plant, including BUSIAD President Buğra Küçükkayalar, KalDer Bursa Branch President Emin Direkçi, TÜGİAD Bursa Branch President Ahmet Parseker, RUMELISIAD President Zarif Alp, Sunvital Energy Founding Partner Oğuz Toraman, NOSAB Entrepreneur Committee Members and many others, Gökçelik Ltd. CEO Yalçın Aras reiterated Gökçelik’s 45 years of environmentally friendly industrial credentials, stating that to be environmentally friendly was no longer enough, and that far more comprehensive studies had to be carried out within the framework of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals and the EU’s Green Reconciliation Action Plan. Aras said that humanity must turn forthwith from its path of rapidly using up the world's resources, to live up to its responsibilities, primarily in the business sector but also as individuals, and to reach the goal of carbon zero. Emphasizing that its SPP investment was a steppingstone for Gökçelik, Aras added that the firm was determined to create a sustainable ecosystem, and would go on taking further action towards achieving that aim.
