GÖKÇELİK CUTS SHOPPING CONTACT BY DEVELOPING A COVID-19 PRODUCT
GÖKÇELİK, leading the way amongst Turkey's shelving and storage systems, manufactures a special Covid-19 product to minimize contact between cashiers and customers. The new acrylic glass shield has been installed in nearly 1,000 supermarket premises across the country.
Yalçın Aras, Gökçelik Ltd founder & CEO, said that the coronavirus epidemic, which spread from the city of Wuhan in China to affect the whole world, has spurred a special need for innovation in equipment for the retail sector. Stressing that demand for the product came from the sector itself, Aras stated the product took shape in line with the Covid-19 pandemic. He said, “At Gökçelik, our Covid-19 products responded to the requirements of a national market chain. In order to eliminate contact between cashier and customer, we have adapted the supermarket checkouts we currently produce to include an acrylic glass shield. The new product has been added to nearly 1,000 of our customer's supermarket checkouts across the country.”

Aras emphasized that despite the use of masks and gloves in supermarkets, cashiers remain in contact with customers due to physical conditions. Saying, “We have minimized this contact by installing the acrylic glass protector at checkouts.” Aras added, “Cashiers and customers are still in physical contact after shopping, while money is being exchanged. If someone is not wearing a mask, the disease can be transmitted directly by mouth. We cut the potential contact between cashiers and customers with the acrylic glass shield specially developed for and applied to supermarket checkouts. This product has become a necessity especially in supermarkets due to the Covid-19 outbreak”.
“THIS ISN'T ABOUT EARNING MONEY”
Pointing out that demand for Covid-19 products such as acrylic glass shields at supermarket checkouts will increase so long as the pandemic continues, Aras said, “At Gökçelik, we certainly did not make this product for profit. Our aim is to provide solutions that meet customer requirements. Invention stems from necessity. Without a need, there is no invention.” He stressed, “This is the era of technology.”
Gökçelik BREEZES THROUGH THE WORLD'S LARGEST RETAIL FAIR
Gökçelik, the shelving systems manufacturer synonymous with technology and the R&D investment it has made in recent years, leaves its mark on Euroshop 2020, the world's largest retail equipment and technology fair.
Euroshop, the world's largest retail equipment and technology fair, is held in Düsseldorf, Germany and brings together representatives from across the sector. This year's Europshop 2020 lasted for 5 days, hosted 2,300 exhibitors from more than 60 countries, and attracted visitors in their hundreds of thousands. Gökçelik, which took part in the fair with a specially designed stand to show off its new products, became the centre of attention and was flooded with visitors.
ARAS: “WE'RE ADDING EXCITEMENT TO THE FAIR.”
Inviting customers from both Turkey and various countries round the world, GÖKÇELİK Ltd founder and CEO Yalçın Aras said, “We have made special preparations to show off our newest products and systems. We're adding colour and excitement to the fair with innovations we think the sector will adore”.
Commenting in terms of the industry, Yalçın Aras cited Euroshop as the world's most important fair, adding, “It is both a market place and almost a forum. All companies use it to showcase their latest innovations and parade their good looks. At Gökçelik, we have been participants at the fair since 1993; and this year, our preparations have been completed side-by-side with our worldwide competitors. With our newest and innovative products, we're working to impress our existing retailers, inspire new customers and attract new contacts. Existing customers who've visited us at the fair, and those we've met for the first time, all expressed praise for our products and stand”. Underlining the importance of fairs especially in terms of exports, Aras said, “We've held positive negotiations in line with our export targets. With this year's fair, we've added new countries in North America, South America and Africa to the hinterland of our export markets. It's been a highly productive fair. ”
GÖKÇELİK TAKES AN IMPORTANT STEP TOWARDS DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION WITH TRANSITION TO SAP S/4HANA.
The Gökçelik S/4HANA Project has successfully been completed with the help of SAP Consultants. In the 2019 Quality Awards for SAP projects, Gökçelik was placed within the top 3 firms making the transition to ERP.
The project incorporates all processes and modules from start to finish, aiming to increase both production traceability and customer satisfaction. Included in Gökçelik's 5-year goals are: building up investments in software and networks, having the latest technology in automation, and completing all the requirements of industry 4.0.
GÖKÇELİK WINS DESIGN WEEK IN TURKEY'S GOOD DESIGN AWARD
For many years, Gökçelik has emphasised the importance of investing in qualified human resources as well as technology in every platform. Gökçelik's young design team – Seda Sağınç, Merve Sırım and Gizen Saray – combining years of experience with a flair for modern lines, entered three products in the Good Design Competition held by Design Week In Turkey.
Gizem Saray's Vegetable Stand, one of the fine designs taking part in the competition, received a Good Design Award.
After 42 years keeping pace with innovation since the foundation of his company, Yalçın Aras made a statement on the Awards, stating that Turkey must be a country that produces and exports design ideas as well as the added value of product technology, to which end he has signed off on many more innovations.
BUSIAD AWARD FOR VOCATIONAL SERVICE GOES TO YALCIN ARAS
The 23rd BUSIAD Dogan Ersoy and Achievement Awards organised by the Bursa Industrialists & Businesspersons Association were presented this year at the Almira Hotel.
The BUSIAD Vocational Award was given to Gokcelik Co. Ltd. Chairperson, Yalcin Aras. With the slogan, “Everywhere the Shelf Exists,” Yalcin Aras, Chairman of the Gokcelik Board of Directors, continues multiplying successes that have culminated in contributions to the country's economy. Yalcin Aras, while affirming the motivation that such awards provide, stated that mass production of the GDS Brand has started, by saying, “'High Rack Shelves Carry a High Responsibility'. We have devoted 20,000 square metres to the production of warehouse systems. With a total of 30,000 square metres of enclosed space and an investment of 50 million TL, our 4 factories are producing shelf systems with the latest technology.” Through automation and information processing technologies we aim to implement Industry 4.0 in our 4th factory, and continue to produce solutions for Warehouse Systems.
